Totally OT but your point brings to mind another mis-definition I often see.
People will say “that is a moot point’ and by context they are indicating that it is beyond further discussion.
Moot, in fact, means arguable - which to me is the exact opposite of being beyond further discussion. [Link: www.merriam-webster.com…]
Would it not be more correct to say ‘it is a mute point’ when indicating that no further discussion is needed?
I may be incorrect but this is just a little personal crudase of mine…….
