As absurd as the Trumpian defenses have been this week and for his whole campaign-presidency, I can’t help but wonder if Team Hillary would have been better off taking the “We didn’t do anything wrong, suck it” defense on the email business instead of apologizing for it. When the final Comey surprise dropped the week before the election it felt like a bombshell, but shouldn’t have been. I felt like we were all conditioned to react in fear to it, as if we were always waiting for the next shoe to drop about it. But I wonder what impact a more belligerent or dismissive attitude towards the whole phony scandal might have been.

Maybe the reality is that Team Clinton’s response was a mix of things and without a Fox News-Rush Limbaugh Talk Radio network to poo-pah any allegations on her behalf, she was ultimately in trouble no matter what response she put forward.
