The media has been pliant for decades. Groveling even. Not much of a watchdog for the country at all.

I think it all goes back to Vietnam when the far right blamed Dan Rather and Uncle Walter for losing the war by showing reality on the news. Ever since then the media decided to just be stenographers, especially the White House press corp.

I was mentioning last night that one of things the military did with the invasion of Grenada in 1983 was to practice keeping the press on a short leash, leading to the farcical “embedded journalists” of the Iraq and Afghan wars.
