But therein lies the rub, a secular regime shouldn’t care about the religiuos dress of it’s citizens, much like real Americans shouldn’t care about where religious buildings are built. In France it was as much the left wing as the right that called for the banning of a item of clothing worn by less than 2000 people, in a country of over 6 million.

are you suggesting the beginnings of a real backlash against the most “conservative” forms of islam? because it does not appear to be an “anti terrorism” thing since syria is a major state terrorism sponsor. Or could this be some small sign of success by our administration and its attempt to wean syria away from iran.
