Who can say- there are numerous “artists” in the music profession that cannot be explained as to why they have any popularity from Britney to N’Sync to Diddy.

Rod Stewart is probably the most incomprehensible.
Nobody could seriously say that he has a great voice. Doesn’t matter ,his voice is appealing, the lyrics are good & he just does great stuff.
