I’ve been spending more time with the creationists lately (and less time elsewhere, including here.) It’s not so much that I hope to “convert” many of them - on the whole it’s a pretty hopeless venture.

However, there are some who are coming out of creationism (and often fundamentalism in general) and if possible it seems like it is worth my time to give them encouragement/help. Often all it takes is knowledge to know one is not alone to help.

As I’ve mentioned before, I look upon creationism as more of a symptom than a cause. Along with creationism comes an entire suite of baggage, and when one sorts through the mess I believe at the root of most of confusion/mind-death is fear. Many of them are afraid of the “other”, which manifests itself in everything from sex to politics.

So off I go, into the wheat-fields of fundamentalism, fearing not to eat the corn on the Sabbath.
