The above measures do not apply to someone who requires inpatient psychiatric care. A person requiring that sort of care is disallowed from owning firearms under federal law, a position that the NRA affirmed on Friday, so they cannot object to it.

Frankly though, I doubt the NRA will raise any further objections to such a bill in the wake of Newtown. They made a big enough deal over mental illness that to oppose it would be obvious hypocrisy.

After the latest evil rant, it should not matter to any sane person or nation what the NRA objects to ever again.
