I think this opinion article from The Guardian reflects totally what I believe will happen (and is much better phrased than I could):

That’s a very good article on the potential disaster of invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.

As I understand the Brexit vote, it was a plebiscite that sought the opinion of UK subjects. It doesn’t demand that Parliament follow the outcome of the vote.

However, that would take the courage of the Conservative Party to say, “Look, we acknowledge your racism against Poles and Romanians, but exiting the European Union would be irrevocably damaging to the UK’s economy for reasons a, b, and c.”

Conservatism does not accept responsibility nor take courageous stands.

Conservatism destroys every nation where it takes hold and remains in power. The Conservatives in the UK would rather destroy the nation than tell it “this is the wrong decision for our nation.” The goal of conservatism in every nation is to gain or maintain power, and they will do that in the UK to the destruction of the City of London and the nation’s companies to do so.
