Actually, they got the zero (and the rest of the “Arabic” numerals) from the Hindus, who rarely get credited for the technology they developed.

That’s why I tack on the “claimed” bit about it. Except for Kufic script, I have discovered very few purely Arabic contributions to the sum total of human arts, science, or culture for some time.
