If we end up seeing the downfall of Trump’s presidency*, I think the largest contributing factor will be that Trump simply cannot stick consistently to a single lying story.

For example, the Comey firing wouldn’t have turned into nearly the stink bomb that it did if Trump hadn’t contradicted the administration cover story (aka ‘cover lie’) the first night after it was put out.

The entire RWNJ noise machine was perfectly prepared to sing in chorus from the ludicrous talking points that Comey was fired for mishandling the Clinton email investigation. At least half the media would have followed along, out of both-siderist desperation for a Republican lie that is even faintly plausible.

But no, Trump just had to shart all over that, bigly.
