He should simply refuse and let the worst of them flounce. He needs to make it clear that either the whole party is willing to get the votes needed to put a Republican in the White House or its 4 more years of Obama. Those are the options.

The options and the facts. Romney and the GOP need to remember that they should also be seeking the support of independents and even some Democrats. Historically we have the Reagan Democrats. The crossover vote is slight but there. The independent vote is huge. Or:

The Gallup Daily tracking poll, initiated in 2008, shows similar party identification figures for 2010 — 32% Democratic, 28% Republican, and 37% independent.

Independent voters favored the GOP in 2010. They didn’t gain the Senate but won the House. They could have won the Senate had they not put forward the two crazies O’Donnell and Angle. There, they lost the independent vote. It’s a clear example.
