I’m not happy about the likelihood of Kavanaugh being on the Supreme Court. On the other hand, we were going to get a conservative Justice, so perhaps a damaged one might be better than one of the others with a shiny clean bill of health? It is possible that Justice Roberts will move a bit more to the center to protect the Court’s reputation.

Meanwhile, I’ve been interested in the reactions to Murkowski saying she’ll vote “present” so Daines could stay for his daughter’s wedding (they couldn’t just vote on Sunday?)
I thought it was a nice gesture, a few liberals think she’s weaseling out. What surprises me is the fury with which it is being greeted at FR. “It’s a trick!!!” Apparently she needs to be voted out over allowing another senator to attend an important family event (and he should just skip it apparently.) I don’t see how this would enable the rejection of Kavanaugh if she changed from “present” to “no” without a whole lot of other things happening that could happen just as well without that 1/2 of a vote.
