The way it works is that they make the steam by pumping water deep underground, where it encounters hot rock and flashes to steam, which then rises back to the surface to spin a turbine. The idea that this causes earthquakes rests on the notion that the fluid pumped underground acts as a lubricant, allowing fault plates to slide more easily.

It’s questionable, to say the least. It seems to me that the water would have to spread over a very large area to have a significant impact, far larger than the amount of water used would allow.
