How do you ever stop people doing this? You can fire the staff who called the police, but they’ll get a job at another coffee shop. You can never make it right for the people who were kept in jail until 2am. I hope they sue - but even that won’t stop it happening again and again.

You create a culture where racism is a shameful thing. You make it clear culturally that racists should be ashamed of themselves, instead of being told that their racism is just another point of view, and that anyone who calls them out on it is a fascist trying to suppress their freedom of speech. You create a culture where the most powerful institutions in it condemn this sort of behaviour, instead of normalising and encouraging it.
