re: #237 Smith25’s Liberal Thighs

Second time I’ve heard this:

“Our diversity is not our problem, it is our promise.”

I so much agree with that. I was having a nice talk with my sister in law’s sister’s husband (I know that’s a mouthful heh) but anyhow the guy is an El Salvadorian immigrant and he was telling me about how he plans to become an immigration lawyer and advocate for other immigrants like himself. His wife who has been naturalized talked a lot about what this country has meant for her too. I really loved Tim Kaine in his Orlando introduction talking about naturalized Americans. Someone on Twitter tweeted that it’s the first time they can really remember a prominent American politician mentioning them. See, it’s little things like that really matter to me. Kaine doing that sent a message of inclusion to voters far more than someone more progressive would have. Not saying someone progressive wouldn’t have done that but my point is that this isn’t just about pure ideology, it’s about people and when Kaine talked about naturalized Americans and in a cute almost corny way thanked them for choosing us, it made me very happy. My own niece is the first person on her mother’s family to be born in the US. The Democratic Party has sent a welcoming message to people liker her in a way the Republican Party has not.
