I am so damn sick of these Bernie people. ZOMG someone sent an email that he may be an atheist. I know they never pushed it to the media, but rigged!

ZOMG the DNC behind the scenes supported the candidate that was more electable and was an actual Democrat. Rigged!

ZOMG HRC got more than 3 million more votes that Bernie, but rigged!

I know exactly what you mean. Honestly, I don’t really blame the DNC for showing some favoritism to Clinton. Hear me out, Bernie was as you say not even an actual Democrat and it’s clear to me that he saw running as a Democrat as the easiest way to get his issues heard or himself elected. He also trashed the DNC, the same organization that had helped him raise money for his past campaigns and did not run Democrats against him. So yeah I understand why Bernie inspired a lot of people at the DNC to think he was an asshole. Constantly saying ti was rigged and bitching about closed primaries while he benefited from caucuses was pathetic too. I’ve just given up with tehse people. They’d rather world be set on fire because they didn’t get Bernie as the nominee and it just makes me sick. And I haven’t even brought up how they attack people who don’t think Bernie is the greatest thing ever as “neo-liberals” or not really being progressive.

Couldn’t agree more. They should’ve never let him run as a democrat but I think they just underestimated the amount of support he would get and hoped he’d just drop out after losing the first 5 states in a row or whatever.

Yeah I thought it was odd they let him run especially given some of his past comments about the Democratic Party though as I said, he has taken their money before too. And honestly, I don’t know if Clinton brought it up or not during the debates but I really think she should have confronted him with that fact.

A party is a club. It’s as democratic as it wants to be. We have no right to influence how that club chooses its leadership. We are privileged to have as much say as we do — we used to have a lot less.

If we don’t like it, we should leave and start a new club that operates how we want.

Clinton won like ~80-90% of the African American Democrat vote. Do Sanders’s supporters in Philly realize that when they ask to have Clinton stripped of the nomination (that she rightfully won) they are basically asking for a massive disenfranchisement of African American voters?

Oh God yeah, in the past and yes that includes the New Deal era that many lefties I know glamorize, it was a lot less democratic. They don’t like the results ego they’re undemocratic. Honestly, they chose to back a flawed candidate and ignored his flaws. It’s okay to be disappointed with the results. I don’t fault them for that because that’s everyone’s right but they don’t have the right to turn the convention into their collective tantrum.

Frank has pointed this out often and he’s right. They just don’t seem to respect that for decades African-Americans had little to no political voice in politics. Hell, look at the DNC this very year, the temporary DNC head is a black woman and the chair of the conevntoin, Marcia Fudge is too. But hey they back that ebil Hillary so they must be no good. The far left in this country and party too is a bunch of privileged little brats who think everything should be given to them because they think they’re the only true progressives.

EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO VOTE. And it’s like no. Would ultra lefties want right wingers voting to nominate their people? I get that they feel a bit of frustration since there’s only two major parties in this country but the far left has no right to use the Democratic Party as a vehicle of convenience to push their agenda when they have no loyalty at all to that party.

Earlier I saw a Trump supporter at another site giving the whole Democratic Party a bunch of shit over that little curtained wall set up in front of all those steps at the Democratic convention separating the crowd from the sage steps.

I don’t know all that has happened today since I just tuned into MSNBC, Anyone have the story on why that separator was set up? Was there some issues with people rushing the stage, etc.

Oh yeah, the person I saw laughing at that made it sound like it was a Trump wall or something.

One other thing. Place looks packed unlike the first day at the RNC. I made some comments about the RNC setting the stage on the long side of the Q arena (sideline of basketball floor) cutting down the amount of usable seating. It appears the stage is at the end of the arena for the Dems.

You know this is all amazing to me. I did NOT like Clinton or her campaign in 2008 but you know to her defense, when it was pretty much clear that Obama was going to be the nominee and not her, she did admit and then worked hard to get him and this is important too other Democrats elected. Clinton is often seen as too ambitious or whatever but I’ll give Clinton my props, she realizes that to run government, it’s not all about her and despite Bernie’s promises otherwise, I never got that vibe from him because for the most part he never bothered to campaign with other officials. I really think Bernie for Bernie only knows what reason wanted to present a narrative of “I’m the only real progressive out there and these other guys are all crooks” and honestly it just bothered me. Clinton meanwhile has campaigned for DNC backed candidates as lefty as Bernie himself to more moderates like Evan Bayh and Tom Vilsack and even some bluedogs. She realizes it’s a big tent party. There’s a part of the left that doesn’t getthat unfortunately.

At least 19 people have been killed and 45 wounded in Japan after a knifeman went on the rampage, according to reports.

The attack happened in the city of Sagamihara, west of Tokyo.

It’s thought that the building includes facilities for disabled people.

Police swarmed the scene after receiving a call from staff just after 2.30am local time.

Are they going to mention Bernie in every speech? So far, two speeches, two roses to Sanders. Now my fave—Elijah Cummings—don’t think he’ll throw Bernie any bones.

I am totally over Bernie’s asshole dead-enders.

I’m fine with it. It only makes the Bros look sillier. And some level of intellectual diversity is healthy for a party, and at the end of the day I do think Sanders’ campaign was healthy for this country and for our democracy, even if it’s made November feel a little more precarious.

There’s always going to be a distribution of opinions. I like that my party addresses that on the up-and-up, rather than march in lockstep and bury it all under a rock for twenty years and have a Trump creature hatch from the unspoken discord.

I wish he were speaking as the Democratic nominee for Maryland’s Senate seat but I understand why Cummings feels better off in the House, he’s got more capacity to effect positive change as a senior House member than new member to the Senate. Great guy. I’m pretty sure that I’m in his district everytime I’m in Baltimore for a baseball game.

One other thing. Place looks packed unlike the first day at the RNC. I made some comments about the RNC setting the stage on the long side of the Q arena (sideline of basketball floor) cutting down the amount of usable seating. It appears the stage is at the end of the arena for the Dems.

I think you’ll find on closer inspection that the DNC stage is also on the long side of the arena. That’s been pretty consistent for many years in convention stage design, in my experience.

As for the curtain wall…unlike the RNC, this convention will include a number of elected officials with Secret Service protection (hi there, Mr. President!). SS typically wants a barrier like that in place at any event where POTUS or FLOTUS are appearing.

Shit. Now that’s awful:
huffingtonpost.com

Basically Wikileaks publishing the personal details of every female voter in Turkey. How could this possibly go wrong? :(

Once upon a time, there were a few serious activists inside Wikileaks, doing responsible things like redacting info that would endanger people, and working with ethical activists and journalists to sort out the data BEFORE publishing it.

Those activists are gone I guess - probably in disgust. Now Wikileaks is just the Assange cult, doing Putin’s bidding. And just dumping data without any vetting.

I’m sorry but I’m sick of it. I’m sick of their purity bullshit for others but their excusing it when it’s people they like. Honestly as I said earlier, why wouldn’t the DNC have some bias against Sanders. The man who trashed them repeatedly even while he had gotten pletny of money and support for his campaigns even when he wasn’t a Democrat. Yeah biting the hand that fed you, that tends to inspire some hostility so sue me. Bernie’s not innocent in this at all and I resent the narrative of poor Bernie who got derailed by the big mean Debbie and the mean girl DNC cabal. I’m NOT saying that the DNC doesn’t have its problems but if you’re going to tell me that Bernie did nothing to inspire the hositlty he got from high ranking DNC people then you’re full of it.

Well now it depends on the news source. NHK is apparently reporting the 45 injured number but only has 15 dead (but that is real dead and not “dead” dead so it is possible both numbers are correct).

An update on the “dead” dead thing: until the death is certified (like by a coroner), the news media in Japan uses a word that roughly translates as “found not moving and with no heart activity” instead of “dead.”

So you know. :)

I expected him to have done this starting when victory for Sanders was impossible, which generously was around March 15th. This also would have been the time at which the vast majority of Democratic black voters had been heard from, and their verdict was for the woman who’s worked with them for 40 years, not the Vermont recluse.

At some point, it just starts to smell like another flavor of ratfuckery.

I am a proud Democrat, I donate to my party, I work to get my party’s nominees elected at all levels, and I am proud to stand alongside Senator Bernie Sanders in his sometimes-quixotic quest for his flavor socioeconomic justice. I don’t always agree with him on everything, but I think his heart is in the right place, and I look forward to hopefully seeing him chair some really kickass committee meetings in a Democrat-controlled US Senate next January. I think he’s a powerful advocate for important causes and I think he can help us move this country forward, together. I think he thinks these things, too, for the record.

And if anybody wants to convince me we should be turning on each other and bu/erning down the party around us, well, they can stick that in their pipe and smoke it.

Yeah, just saw that a few minutes ago. My mistake. When I first tuned in it was hard to tell.

Exactly. She had a wonderful ad narrated by Morgan Freeman where she showed a lot of that. She worked on forming genuine relationships with people. Sanders campaign thought they could bring up the 60’s and his voting record and that would be enough. Clinton understands that politics is about people ultimately.

I do see what you mean. I just don’t know if it’s fair to expect him to do it in a convention speech. I agree with you the Sanders campaign did alot of crappy things. I just don’t know Jealous can address all of that while endorsing Clinton in the same speech.

I agree he should be expected to do it in a convention speech, because he should’ve done it months ago. The entire team should’ve endorsed Hillary after New York … California … Washington DC at the absolute latest. They waited until it was far too late and now they’re trying to ignore and cover up the predictable effect of their own political malpractice.

This is true, but it’s backward-looking in a way that I don’t find helpful right now. I’m not interested at this point in levying blame and pointing fingers — that’s something that’s going to need to happen, but it’s not the top priority. The priority has to be on patching up a coalition and moving forward to keep things from sinking into the abyss.

If you find ironic the parallels between this and Sanders’ professed views on post-2008 Wall Street bankers, well, you’re not the only one.

Okay fair enough. I just personally think the focus of his speech should be about Clinton and why she should be elected the next president. I know. I cannot believe I found my fourth great grandfather’s will from 180 years ago when his family was pretty much the only part of the family in the US that I know. I’ve had so many awesome finds that I can’t complain too much about this and I know my cousin should be able to find the record at the library.

This house band is way better than the GOP house band. Still annoying, but not quite AS annoying.

As with 2012, GE Smith must have just said “fuck it!” as he looked at the size of his RNC paycheck, because that meant he could give his band some well-paying work.

Nothing necessarily wrong with that.

Yep. They refuse to see that they lost because they treated minority voters like idiots. I still remember Bernie’s condescending answer about “Well the South is a very conservative part of the country.” Okay Bernie, does that explain why you won overwhelmingly in equally Republican states like Idaho, Utah, Nebraska, and Oklahoma? They didn’t listen. They just talked down to people and shockingly a lot of people didn’t like it. I’m a pretty well to the left guy and the Sanders campaign lost me with that patronizing bs. I can’t imagine how people of color must have felt being told they should ignore Clinton’s 40 years of working with the African-American community because Bernie marched in the Civil Rights movement.

They live in the South, they’re low information. It was such patronizing bs. I mean if there had been a sincere effort to actually listen to minority voters, it would be one thing but they didn’t do that and they still don’t get why they lost. The narrative must be fed. The Bernie bros are pained and they must be appeased.

That’s a load of horseshit.

Democrats, other than the few Never Hillarys, will come around because the facts will out.

The fact is that the emails don’t show the kind of wrongdoing by DNC or Hillary that the Berniebros project on it. This wasn’t even a close primary. Bernie got blown out, mostly on the strength of African Americans who refused to pull the lever for the guy who all but ignored their plight throughout the entire primary campaign.

If you wanted to know whether Bernie won a state or not, just look at the demographics. The higher the minority population as a percentage of the electorate, the more Hillary was likely to win.

That’s why she won in the South. And cruised in places like DC, CA, NY, NJ, PA, etc. These are high delegate states.

Oh, and about those supers.

With them, it was first to 2,383.

Without the supers, you’d need to get to 2,026. And guess what, she won that easily as well - cruising in with 2,204.

It’s magical thinking…and it is entitlement.

Say what you will about the Tea Party, they were WAY more effective than these people will ever be, because they were in it to WIN, not just to disrupt if they lost. And they didn’t withhold their votes. Nope. They put up their candidates, won a few, lost a few, and then voted for the GOP nominee. Everywhere, every time.

Right. And they valued local races a lot too. Never saw anything close to concern for that from these types.

Yeah. NYT was showing the same. That does get me to relax.

When, hopefully, Hillary wins, the Russians need to have the thumbscrews tightened. And I got a better one that yesterday.

Meet Prometheism.

Prometheism or Prometheanism (Polish: Prometeizm) was a political project initiated by Poland’s Józef Piłsudski. Its aim was to weaken the Russian Empire and its successor states, including the Soviet Union, by supporting nationalist independence movements among the major non-Russian peoples that lived within the borders of Russia and the Soviet Union.

There are a lot of Non-Russian peoples that still want independence.

It’s going to be really interesting to watch four nights of convention speakers in front of a VERY full arena, as opposed to last week when the only times the hall was full was when Trump’s cult-of-personality family was on stage.

And much easier on the eyes to watch them on a stage set that is well-designed and attractive rather than a fake baroque nightmare mess.
