One of the very few benefits I have as a registered republican in Kentucky is that I get to vote against Bevin and McConnell twice each: in the primary and in the general.

The major benefit is that I can vote against the libertarian carpetbaggers pretending to be republicans when they run for local office in the primary (the primary being THE election that counts for local offices because the general is always a mere formality).

That can work both ways (Republicans registering as Democrats).

I stick to being a Democrat here; I want to be able to select the person I think would be best for a particular position.

We don’t have to worry about Libertarian carpetbaggers here, since the Libertarians run people for office including all state offices. (Last election I voted for the Libertarian candidate for state auditor, as no Democrat ran for the office.)
