Thing here is the fact that the Ottoman Empire saw Wahhabism as an aberration. Also, Wahhabism has led to the death of untold thousands, starting with the sack of Karbala in 1801. In any case, Saudi Arabia is the core of the problem. Also the Hashemites ruled the Hijaz (area with Mecca and Medina) for hundreds of years before the Sauds sacked it. So, I would trust the Hashemites more on this matter.

How can the Saudi’s be the “core” of the problem if Wahhabism was in extent in 1801? Saudi Arabia was founded in 1932. Saudi Arabia may be perpetrating and extending the problem… but they are not the “core.” The radical aspects of Wahhabist Islam was in place long before Saudi Arabia.
