Lawyers don’t generally resign unless one of three conditions are met: 1) Their client is failing to pay his bills, 2) they ethically cannot continue to represent their client, or 3) there has been a falling out with their client.

Since the wingnuts believe Trump is a billionaire who could afford to pay whatever his lawyers ask, that leaves potential ethical violations or attorney/client relations breaking down. There’s no reasonable explanation that says Dowd just decided to up and quit one day.

Trump is an awful client. How do we know this? Because he’s always been an awful client. His own legal teams devised a 2-man rule so that any decision was made with two lawyers in the room because no one could trust anything coming out of his mouth.

His own lawyers knew he lied and had memory issues going back to the 1990s.

Trump doesn’t take advice. He hears only what he wants to believe. He doesn’t trust anyone who tells him stuff that disagrees with his worldview.

All of that applies to his current situation. A lawyer is ethically bound to tell Trump what the deal is and all the repercussions of his actions. Trump doesn’t want to hear that. Trump wants to hear that the lawyer is making it go away.

The lawyers can’t do that because it’s not a real estate matter that can be settled. These are criminal investigations involving high crimes and misdemeanors (obstruction of justice is among the least serious charges that could be considered against Trump personally IMO - and we know the GOP impeached Clinton on those very grounds, so there’s precedent).

Trump is going to spin this as though he’s happy his lead attorney resigned from the case, but the reality is that there aren’t many willing to jump in. You don’t see his pal Dershowitz going for it, despite auditioning for the role on Fox daily. There’s a reason - even Alan knows it’s a shit show and Trump isn’t reliable and lies about everything, as do everyone else around him. It’s a toxic waste dump of chaos and criminality.
