I have a hard time imagining the CDU aligning themselves with AfD (though I could see the Bavarian counterpart CSU doing that to an extent)…..so that would leave the SPD to align with Die Linke.

All rather unpalatable, IMHO.

The CSU has been eyeing the AfD for some time now, they want to appeal to the same sort of voters in Bavaria. And Die LInke is made up to a great extent of people who left the Socialists because they had gone too centrist. That and the former East German Communist Party.

So, yeah, why mar a good reputation?
