LePage’s latest example of Republican heartlessness is evil, but also interesting when contrasted with Trump, whom he vocally supports. Trump has clearly abandoned the “hard-work, bootstrap” type rhetoric that the Republican party has run on for so long. Apparently white people who are “angry about the economy” are exempt from the bootstrap lecture, unlike the poor, working-class minorities who were, and still are in many ways, systematically excluded from large sectors of the economy.
