We came in from a Canadian landing, Halifax IRRC. We went pretty straight to NY. (And we did lose an O’ along the way.)

My family mostly arrived through Philadelphia, with the exception of the German side of my mother’s family. They were Hessians who opted to stay after the Revolutionary War. Our family’s name gave people then the same problems people now have, so as my distant relatives fanned out across the country, they spread like 6 different spellings of the name.
