You’re newer around here, so let me introduce myself: I grew up a wingnut. I was one of those assholes. My folks are evangelical Christians of the old tradition - they were proud of themselves for voting for Marco Rubio in the 2016 primaries. My entire extended family on both sides runs deep with the White American Jesus crazy. And God bless them, as much as it’s wrong and as much as I oppose what they now stand for, I love them and I still want to be in a position to reach them somehow if I can. I don’t know if anything will ever snap them out of their alternate reality; I doubt it. But I owe it to them to try, because we’re fishes and we swim together.
