Don’t know much about NY politics, but some how I don’t think Obama’s meddling is going to help him. It may in fact back fire on him and actually help Paterson get elected if he can spin it as Washington (Obama) trying to dictate to NY residents who should or should not be their Governor.

As for Clinton’s early problems, I seem to remember that one of them was/is the same as Obama’s. That being the single payer health care plan. Then it was called Hillarycare and was just as hotly disputed.

One of the very first things Clinton chose to handle was gays in the military. Some say this was a tactical mistake and that this was what caused him to get bogged down right from the beginning. I’m not a the closest follower of NY politics either, but I get the sense that many in NY believe Patterson is in over his head. I haven’t seen polls in a while, but I at least for a while there he was pretty unpopular.
