re: #242 SanFranciscoZionist

New England’s what I was thinking of. The countryside is a patchwork of pasture and second/third-growth woods, and it’s not uncommon to see deer munching alongside cows, or cows nosing into the edge of the woods to get to some nicer grass.

My own personal theory is that if you can see the animal well enough to shoot it, you ought to be able to visually verify that it’s a deer before firing, but this is not universal.

Case in Vermont (?) years ago, a woman was shot in her own backyard because a hunter confused something she was wearing with the marks on a white-tailed deer’s rump.

For this reason I have abandoned my hobby of wearing a brown coat with white earmuffs and hopping up and down in my yard during hunting season.

I miss it so.
