re: #234 RoughRider

And now are we going to have a flock of brilliant conspiracy-theorist Oafers to deal with too?

I guess this is a good place to re-post the story that happened to me as I was going to work yesterday (all the references to “today” are referring to Jan. 19th, when I originally posted this):

Ever get in a bad situation, but you not only said or did something to get out of it, you said or did the one thing that gets you out of that situation in the best possible way? That happened to me today!

I was taking a long bus ride to work. As it happens, the bus was more crowded than usual, as there were many people on there who had obviously just come from the Las Vegas Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade (judging by their King Jr./0bama shirts).

When I got on, the only place left to sit was in back. There was some big black guy (most likely homeless, judging by appearances) sleeping just 2 seats over facing me (the buses here have seats facing both forward and backward), but he slept through half the strip, and I figured he wouldn’t be any problem.

At the stop in front of Caesars Palace, the bus driver (obviously concerned about how long this guy has been sleeping) comes back to wake the guy up - not kick him off, but just to wake him up and make sure he’s OK.

Well, this guy wakes up, and starts ranting about being woken up. He starts complaining about being woken up by the bus driver, yelling how the bus driver probably isn’t even American (naturally, everyone else including me is not paying attention to him), and screams that the bus driver is probably Hawaiian (Ummm … remind me again what country Hawaii is in?)!

The bus driver walked away, and I figured I’d get away from this situation, too. Unfortunately, as I started to leave, this guy blocks me. As he is bigger than me, and possibly crazy, I’m pretty much stuck.

He starts yelling directly at me about how these “foreigners” are everywhere, and starts saying that damn Hawaiians, Mexicans and others are ruining this country. I’m scared as heck, and the other passengers are scared of this guy, and pity me, as everyone (including me) probably figures I’m going to get beat up.

All I could say at first was, “Isn’t Hawaii part of this country?” The crazy guy goes off about how you can’t just make stuff up and says it isn’t.

It’s at this point an idea came into my head, and I decide to go with it.

I ask him if he’s sure, and he says he’s damn sure Hawaii isn’t part of America. I then yell at the top of my lungs, so everyone on the bus can hear me, “OH, SO YOU’RE SAYING HAWAII ISN’T IN THE US, AND THEREFORE NATIVE HAWAIIAN BARACK 0BAMA CAN’T LEGALLY BE SWORN IN AS THE NEW US PRESIDENT TOMORROW?!?

When the consequences of what he’s saying hit this guy, and when he turned around to see a bus full of people who are not only anticipating 0bama’s inauguration, but who are wearing MLK Jr./0bama T-shirts, scowling at him, he ran from the bus fast enough to qualify for the Olympics!

Almost everyone on the bus especially those just a few rows from me, immediately broke out into laughter. An 0bama supporter just one row away turned to me and said, “Dude, that was F***ING brilliant!”
