I am apparently a dolt because this makes no sense to me, even after reading about what the results mean.

We can show, for example, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and Pol Pot, with their commitment to a totally controlled economy, on the hard left. Socialists like Mahatma Gandhi and Robert Mugabe would occupy a less extreme leftist position.

There has to be a greater segmentation than that. It just seems like a lot of extremes. Pol Pot is a hard leftist? Really?
