This is why I hate most contemporary music.
In the old days, there was poetry, and then someone set it to a tune.
Since, say, 1948 - arbitrary cutoff date - it’s been tune-driven. Come up with a catchy one, then write horrendous lyrics to go with it.
I do not except anyone from this barring, perhaps, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Leonard Cohen.
What about the Indigo Girls?
