re: #18 Jack Burton, Gunner on Death Star of David

It’s been some time since I’ve watched one of Steve’s videos, mostly because he gets into topics that have not interest for me.

He has a point here in that video, but I think he misses the bigger picture, when he argues for why he doesn’t do explicitly atheism-promoting videos any more.

For while he acknowledges that a public figure can get well past their expiry date (e.g. Dawkins), what Steve does not embrace is that then each new generation needs their own spokespeople.

Now maybe he doesn’t want to assign to himself that role for atheism, but the teenagers and twenty-somethings today need messengers and spokes people that can address them.

Steve is probably too old for that himself, but I think he could try.

And yes, that means repeating yourself.

There is nothing wrong with repeating yourself.

Professors often teach the same subject for decades. And the good ones find they get better and better each time they do it.

Steve is probably more concerned with left-wing politics than atheism, but I think if he spent more time at the intersection of the two he could discover new topics to discuss.

I see he still does Star Trek videos. Well, Star Trek as a topic has been truly been beaten into a fine pulp by now. Yet Steve still thinks to do ST videos, in which he probably repeats what a thousand trekkies have already discussed on boards and in videos.

So, no, I’m not so convinced that he couldn’t do an atheism series that has value to the younger generation.
