re: #256 RadicalModerate

David Duke has been a Republican since the 1980s, when he switched over along with all the other “Dixiecrats”. He was a Republican state senator, and ran for Louisiana Governor in 1991 as a member of the Republican Party, The fact that he actually made it to a run-off, and carried most northern Louisiana parishes while running on a outright racist platform was a primary reason that moved away from that area more than 20 years ago.

He made it so far in the Republican party that President H.W Bush and the Republican establishment in Louisiana had to disawow his candidacy. Anyhow, would love to know what this twit thinks about Jesse Helms who got six terms in office by being a modern version of the Strom Thurmond who ran for president in ‘48. I still subscribe to the belief that civil rights is and was about ideology. A lot of old right wing dixiecrats refused to join the GOP because they still blamed the GOP for the “War of Northern Aggression.”
