This. Works like a charm unless the starter is complete junk.
I used to carry a long flathead screwdriver and a hammer with me when I drove a ‘90 Mazda pickup(basically a Ford engine). Worked like a charm.
Even started a newer hotrod mustang in a circle k parking lot with that trick.
My first car had the carburetor float stick down every once in a a while, flooding the engine. I’d have to get out, open the hood, take off the air cleaner, and hit the carburetor with a hammer handle. Got some strange looks….
