And there were those who complained about the Wiz stomping on the all-white traditions of the Wizard of Oz.

And Daniel Craig not having black hair.

The great thing about myths and familiar characters like Annie or James Bond is that the characterization can transcend the physical attributes of the character. Some people just can’t make the leap from the concrete to the abstract, though.
