Just to follow up on what mattand mentioned in one of the replies to that tweet. I think the period is used to change it from a direct @ reply to a tweet so that all of that derps followers will see his response. Without the period, just mutual followers would see it. I could be wrong though.

Crap. My mistake. Thought it was a #tgdn thingy.

On the bright side, it enables me to piss off more homophobes.
