That’s the “protocol” we’ve been using around here since the first shutdown in spring 2020. Masking when you pass someone is more a courtesy to someone who might be more paranoid than you than a prevention, but courtesy is good.) What’s the problem?

Just saying public policy shouldn’t cater to the paranoid it should respond to the best understanding of the science. If individuals want to show that courtesy that’s fine. When the state mandates you wear a mask outdoors in public all the time, it probably just makes more people even more paranoid for no good reason.
