If I had a free ten years or so I’d love to get deep into Russian politics, and understand how it is viewed by the Russian citizenry.

I think that’s one challenge we all face understanding other political systems; not just the system is it works in terms of political power, but the way that the citizens view their government.

and the way the government views the prople.

the most enlightening moment for me came when i was working with a foreign company over there in 1992. We had a number of russians working for us, and most of them were party members. I remember asking why they still retained their party cards, since communism was a lost cause.

Sergei (not our sergey) just turned to me and said “we will win in the end”.

I have come to understand what he meant.
