Denunciation from the Senate floor worked to derail McCarthy.

The parallels here are to numerous to list.

But McCarthy was a sitting senator. Remember that era. The McCarthy Trials were carried on national television on a major network. The trials themselves had a large audience. We’re not working in a place with 3 television stations there are hundreds of them. All of them looking for a sliver of ratings. To have a speech denouncing it on the senate floor would be strong to the senators but no one watching regular tv would hear about it.
