Just as an example, food: If i feel like it, I can have Indian food from one of half a dozen restaurants. Chinese from maybe 40. Japanese from about 20. Thai from maybe 10. Afghani, Lebanese, Peruvian, Persian, Cuban, Salvadoran, multiple different places serving food from every region of Mexico. All without driving more than 2 miles, and most very reasonably priced.

Or culture. My wife and I hit museums all over the lower NY area. We go to between 4 and 6 live shows a month. We frequent New York’s many parks and public spaces. And we even frequent local bars that stay open till all hours of the night.

How’s Montana or Nebraska gonna compete with that?
