After getting used to having a press secretary and a staff to get up and tell people that he did not mean what he said, now he gets up to tell us he did not even say what he said, but then he still did, so take your pick, he is like a fucking rorschach blot for what you want to see or hear

This is the very safe take and it’s likely but even as coordinated smokescreen it’s abhorrent and dangerous. It doesn’t even have to happen because the mere threat and suggestion is bad enough to shock our system. And that is one of Putin’s aims. Then you add in the context and whew! The other thing about Sarah’s statement is, when’s the last time she actually spoke FOR Trump, rather than just saying stuff at the podium?

She drops bits of news every now and again. More often she’ll say she’s gotta check with Trump, or say the question is stupid to avoid it or she’ll lie about something we already know. In this case, she confirmed that Trump and Putin spoke about Browder and McFaul.

Christ. A puppy is just like a kid. Tell her NO and she stares at me. Then starts doing it again - while I am watching her. Another NO and she’s like, “Oh, you meant it?”

Then, two minutes later, she does it AGAIN.

Another NO finally got her to stop.

Which honestly is really impressive given that they didn’t exist when the Afghanistan mission began. I’m going to say this about G.W. Bush and his team, they did appreciate that we’d need allies in the former Eastern bloc. I hated that they did so by dissming Germany and France’s concerns about Iraq but they wouldn’t throw an ally under the bus like that either. So yeah thanks GW Bush, I do remember Poland now :).

Simplest slice is 2 states, divided somewhere between Santa Barbara County and Monterey County, say San Luis Obispo. Bay Area dominates the North, LA dominates the South.

Ah, but Tucker and the yam are concerned:

“Why should my son go to Montenegro to defend it from attack?” Carlson asked in the interview… “I understand what you’re saying, I’ve asked the same question,” Trump responded.

I’m pretty sure none of Tucker’s or the yam’s families have ever been in the military so why the fuck would Tucker’s son go to Montenegro? (plus, I think his son in in high school.) What steaming piles of bullshit they both are.

Because some dumb fuck old crank asshole white fucker in Kenosha Wisconsin has that very concern about their grandkid. And they voted for Trump and are sticking with him because of stuff just like this.

“Trump understands me…middle class white ‘merica. Why are we in all these wars when we got gangs and people of color in the inner cities we should be fighting???!!!”

Carlson and Trump know their base and they speak for them. That bit Tucker spewed was classic Americana right from the Vietnam war era. And it goes right to the people of the age bracket that didn’t like Vietnam…the boomers.

Good luck getting three democratic states out of CA. Why do you think they want this? Two of the three would wind up being GOP since a good majority of CA is rural.

This is a bad idea no matter how you slice it.

Pretty sure we can use the same gerrymandering software the GOP uses to make sure all three states are democratic majority since Democrats heavily outnumber Republicans in the state. We have to be willing to take the gloves off and play hardball just like the Republicans do.

No we need to split California into two or three Democratic majority states so Californians aren’t so pathetically underrepresented in the US Senate. And give D.C. and Puerto Rico statehood.

This is neither a realistic nor desirable option. No Russian Scheme“plan” to split CA has been put forth that ever results in a Democratic majority. No Democrats want this, it’s always the GRUGOP throwing this crap out as a way to super-gerrymander the Senate.

A much more realistic, but still not going to happen plan is combining a few of these GOP majority almost completely empty states that have a lower population than the city I live in.

If I had my way, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska would be combined into one state. It would still be in the lower half of the US in population. No one in any of those states would want it either.

I recently read that in 20-30 years it is expected that 70% of the US population will live in the 15 most populous states. At that point, the Senate will be exactly ass-backwards, with 30 Senators representing 70% of the population and 70 Senators representing 30% of the population.

That level of imbalance is going to put a real strain on the system, especially if the Republicans remain the batshit insane death cult they presently are.

I believe you’re referring to this:

The reason that’s such a problem is that as America has become a land of big coastal cities with lots of nearly empty space in between, America has also become a much more ethnically and culturally diverse country, more tolerant of difference and of change. But the folks in the nearly empty space are the ones left behind, the least diverse, the least tolerant of difference and of change. And they’ll dominate the Senate.

Makes perfect sense: any normal thinking person sees the point of a large military to be preparedness for defense or projecting power, with that preparedness discouraging attacks. That’s why you spend a lot of money on training and joint exercises with allies, both to BE prepared and to DEMONSTRATE that preparedness.

Trump sees the military as his own personal honor guard, so it has to be big and shiny and be used for parades, not getting all dirty staying prepared.

Same thing with having troops and bases stationed abroad. It demonstrates preparedness while putting the troops where they need to be in case they need to respond.

Trump? Well, if they’re in Germany or South Korea, they’re not here to parade for him!

Now lets say you get your way and divide California into 3 states.

Are you aware that under the Texas Annexation Act of 1845, there is a provision in the law that allowed Texas to be split into five states?

That provision was superseded by the agreement to let Texas back into the Union after the Civil War.

There are only ten congressional districts in California which are primarily Republican, out of a total of 53. It would be pathetically easy to make sure each of those districts are matched with 4 or more blue and purple districts, even without sophisticated gerrymandering software. You could theoretically create 10 democratic majority states out of California; three would be a piece of cake.

More specifically, they’d need to create high-paying jobs that require an educated workforce. Instead, they’ll take advantage of the UNeducated, low skill workforce in those cheaper places to have warehouses staffed with low-paid workers, while the higher paid, better educated workers remain in our Liberal Elitist Enclaves.

New York State and even California are a microcosm of this. I grew up in Upstate NY, all the jobs in the area were for low/uneducated workers unless you were working in a trade skill position (medical, mechanical, electrical, construction etc). If you wanted to do something that required skill or an education you were either going out of state or to the big within the state (NYC and surrounding areas, Buffalo, Rochester, Albany/Schenectady/Troy). Most of the upstate economy was factory work and/or textiles (leather) and when the leather mills shut down so did a lot of people’s job prospects.

My father worked for a refrigerator manufacturer and that was one of the largest companies employing anyone in the area. It, too, went out of business. The only things to move into the area? A wal mart distribution facility and a target distribution facility. Of course they could only hire so many. So now you have a mostly white populace that’s completely left behind, blames it all on the city folks (NYC) and is fed a steady diet of right wing propaganda via FOX and Rush limbaugh DAILY.

But, you know, it’s not just jobs. It’s the whole package.

Just as an example, food: If i feel like it, I can have Indian food from one of half a dozen restaurants. Chinese from maybe 40. Japanese from about 20. Thai from maybe 10. Afghani, Lebanese, Peruvian, Persian, Cuban, Salvadoran, multiple different places serving food from every region of Mexico. All without driving more than 2 miles, and most very reasonably priced.

It was obvious the moment he stated his motivation was attending the French parade, he wants them military to parade in his honor and little more. This isn’t about some big display “for the troops,” it’s about having several hundred soldiers parading down Penn Ave so he feel as though his dick has gotten bigger. The costs involved, both financially and the demands on those troops? He doesn’t give a fuck, it’s just as ridiculous as wondering if he gave a damn how much covering his apartments in gold leaf cost. Fuck, if a general suggested spending an extra $20M to cover all the tanks and armor in gold leaf, he’d consider it money well spent.

If you like living in California, any other place is really not the same.

If you live in a 500 square foot apartment with three roommates in San Francisco or NYC, but you fall in love and want to have children, and your work is the kind that can be done mostly online with a visit to the home office 3 days a month…

That 4 bedroom house on 3 acres in Montana or Kansas or Indiana is cheaper than the apartment you’re giving up in the city. And now you’re not single, maybe the city isn’t as appealing as it was.

I get that. And that’s why I suggested Des Moines as a starting example. There are cities in nearly every state - they do tend to be the liberal areas - that have a lot of that stuff. For a lot of those places, it’s also way easier to get around than places like DFW or LA.

I need to work on some rural group resettlement concepts.

Just don’t follow the Christian Exodus blueprint//

2003—On their plan to re-populate South Carolina with true believers. They are hoping to have people move to the state in groups of 12,000…hoping to have 50,000 to 70,000 supporters in South Carolina by 2016…”Our end goal is we put people in power like Judge Roy Moore in Alabama, who really understand the Constitution”

2005— Five families have moved to the state so far to be part of the movement. (And if I remember correctly, their leader decided he’d rather stay in California—weird, a lot of the info on these loons is now gone from search engines.)

Now—Apparently, all of fifteen families have moved to South Carolina. Their website now is little more than a collection of photographs of various sites they own, only one of which is actually located in South Carolina.

Quite the movement.

My point is not that everyone should want to live here. Lots of people choose not to. And yet our population keeps growing. I’ve lived here 36 years, and I keep hearing (from people who don’t live here) that California is near collapse, that everyone’s moving out, that our taxes are so high that all our companies are leaving.

Yeah? Then how come you can’t buy a house in my town for under 1 Million, and if you know San Mateo you know it’s SOLIDLY middle class - mostly tract houses on 1/4 acre or less, generally <2000 sq ft.

People come here to be here. The move here and then find a job, or they specifically look for a job here. And lots of people leave. But since the population keeps climbing, clearly more people move in than out.

Me? I’m facing the fact that I won’t be able to afford living here when I eventually retire, and I’m looking for where I can buy a house for cheap enough to live off the equity in my house. But if I had $2 million in the bank and my mortgage paid off, I’d never leave.

Yeah, my Idiot Brother is one of those retirees.

Though, to be fair, he actually moved there maybe 10 years ago, and only just retired. He lived in New Mexico for a summer in his early 20s, and I think has long wanted to return. But for all that he loved New Mexico, he sure lived in places as different from it as you could imagine. He lived in Bemidji, Minnesota for a decade, and then Illinois before moving to NM.

When we talk about retiring, I tend to think of the area where I grew up. The scenery is nice, you can get wooded land, the population is actually growing, there’s access to good healthcare and because it’s farm country, fresh produce is not a problem. You can grow kickass tomatoes there, for example.

I think I’ve shit bigger movements than that.

California desperately needs zoning reform so that affordable housing can be built.

Blind Frog Belly White  Jul 18, 2018 • 3:45:43pm

Speaking of retiring in a state where your vote can make a difference, a friend of FB just posted a listing for a house near my home town, on 1.5 acres of land, fronting the creek.

Sure, the house is kinda dismal and the best way to remodel it would involve a bulldozer, but still…..

Remember when the NRA argued against gun registration because when the Commies took over they would then have a list and just come and confiscate everyone’s guns?

Irony of ironies: The Russian intelligence services almost certainly have the NRA’s complete membership files, information the NRA zealously guards from the feds and all other Americans. Same is true of the John Birch Society. Of course, the Russians don’t intend to use this data to round up the “patriots” and shoot them. They would want it to help with lower level recruiting. Finding a local reporter who was also a fanatical NRA member, for example, would be an ideal lead for further investigation. The recruiter could then look for blackmail material, especially including things like a gambling addiction or drug habit that would cause great financial distress.

The recent news cycle has revealed clear evidence that the Republicans and the GOP machine have been compromised by the FSB and other Russian Intelligence assets.

You know things are really going down when you start hearing news reports about very high ranking US Military officers being fired and replaced by compliant Trump supporters. This will likely happen this coming year.

The elections this Fall will do little to stop this hijacking of our country from taking place. 35% of our country has been intent on taking over and they are succeeding, largely due to laziness and negligent voting habits. I guess we deserve this. All empires eventually fall… ours is rapidly coming apart at the seams.

It’s not sex. Trump wants an image of himself as a Sex Monster who fucks everything, girls, boys, animals, vegetables, minerals, whatever. He would be proud of anything that shows him doing sex with whatever.

It has to be money. His net worth is negatives and oligarchs own him, have owned him for decades and keep him on a stingy allowance.

Through high school, college, and law school, I kept to one very important rule: if one of the multiple choice answers was “all of the above”, that was most likely the correct answer.

Oh, and atop that, “expert” called onto Faux criticizes NATO for bringing in new member nations because those nations are small and don’t pay enough…when there is no monetary amount set, but instead a percentage of their national budgets that is an aspirational goal to be met in 2024.

I don’t understand what is so hard for these idiots to comprehend… the bigger the alliance, the less likely another state is going to attack any member (that’s good, generally, for peace). By admitting smaller nations, you drastically reduce the chances of regional wars (again, generally good for peace) because itchy neighbors aren’t going to want to see American, British, and French bombers flying over their cities. Without NATO, or some such organization, you end up with a situation like we presently have in the Middle East - where foreign powers are stoking/creating/meddling in civil wars.

Actually, I’m guessing Amb. McFaul is probably fairly safe for now: but only because (IMO) the (*sigh* yet another) firestorm of outrage over the possibility that the Administration would hand him over to the Russians will probably be spun to to the Orange Anus as “bad optics” or “polls poorly” or whatever the “ratings”-obsessed moron thinks at that minute.

My guess as to what happens? Trump makes an announcement (probably by tweet) that of course he’d never turn over an ex-diplomat: and Sarah Slanders will get up in front of the WH press, and lambaste them for being so stupid as to think President MAGA would ever do such an awful thing, and why aren’t they reporting on the REAL news, i.e. how great everything is in TrumpLand - and the Fox headpuppets can pontificate away about how noble a Leader The Donald is for his sage decision, and how it all proves that his critics are brain-dead victims of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

It’s the “Over There” syndrome kicking in again. It’s like how most of these fucknuts also don’t think of WWII as starting earlier than 1941, because that’s when we got involved. When it’s a “regional conflict,” they couldn’t give a fuck less other than to ask if our interests are at stake and who’s in the White House. But as soon as we want to start some shit, it doesn’t matter how high the cost and how low the reward is, we will do it and anybody who argues against it is “anti-American.”

Look at our options. We can’t do that and we can’t amend the Constitution to make the Senate either more representative or to strip it of power like most upper houses, because the small states will block it. we can give DC and Puerto Rico statehood, and we can gerrymander new democratic majority states out of the California superstate. Don’t tell me it can’t be done; California has 40 million people, as many as the 22 smallest states combined, and far more of them are Democrats than Republicans.

We can double the house of Representatives. That would make representation a hell of a lot more proportionate between large population states and the low density states.

All the protests in the world won’t help McFaul after the event. Trump NEVER disavows anything related to Putin. His measly misspoke option gets instantly reversed. At the minute trump IS getting away with it. EVERY GOP leader should have instantly announced trump would be impeached if he even thought about letting a US diplomat be interviewed by the Russians (or any other country) - but they are silent or tut tutting in their beards.
