This is neither a realistic nor desirable option. No Russian Scheme“plan” to split CA has been put forth that ever results in a Democratic majority. No Democrats want this, it’s always the GRUGOP throwing this crap out as a way to super-gerrymander the Senate.
A much more realistic, but still not going to happen plan is combining a few of these GOP majority almost completely empty states that have a lower population than the city I live in.
If I had my way, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska would be combined into one state. It would still be in the lower half of the US in population. No one in any of those states would want it either.

We can’t do that and we can’t amend the Constitution to make the Senate either more representative or to strip it of power like most upper houses, because the small states will block it. we can give DC and Puerto Rico statehood, and we can gerrymander new democratic majority states out of the California superstate. Don’t tell me it can’t be done; California has 40 million people, as many as the 22 smallest states combined, and far more of them are Democrats than Republicans.

The reason that’s such a problem is that as America has become a land of big coastal cities with lots of nearly empty space in between, America has also become a much more ethnically and culturally diverse country, more tolerant of difference and of change. But the folks in the nearly empty space are the ones left behind, the least diverse, the least tolerant of difference and of change. And they’ll dominate the Senate.

That’s why you spend a lot of money on training and joint exercises with allies, both to BE prepared and to DEMONSTRATE that preparedness.
Trump sees the military as his own personal honor guard, so it has to be big and shiny and be used for parades, not getting all dirty staying prepared.
Same thing with having troops and bases stationed abroad. It demonstrates preparedness while putting the troops where they need to be in case they need to respond.

New York State and even California are a microcosm of this. I grew up in Upstate NY, all the jobs in the area were for low/uneducated workers unless you were working in a trade skill position (medical, mechanical, electrical, construction etc). If you wanted to do something that required skill or an education you were either going out of state or to the big within the state (NYC and surrounding areas, Buffalo, Rochester, Albany/Schenectady/Troy). Most of the upstate economy was factory work and/or textiles (leather) and when the leather mills shut down so did a lot of people’s job prospects.
My father worked for a refrigerator manufacturer and that was one of the largest companies employing anyone in the area. It, too, went out of business. The only things to move into the area? A wal mart distribution facility and a target distribution facility. Of course they could only hire so many. So now you have a mostly white populace that’s completely left behind, blames it all on the city folks (NYC) and is fed a steady diet of right wing propaganda via FOX and Rush limbaugh DAILY.

It was obvious the moment he stated his motivation was attending the French parade, he wants them military to parade in his honor and little more. But, you know, it’s not just jobs. It’s the whole package.
Just as an example, food: If i feel like it, I can have Indian food from one of half a dozen restaurants. Chinese from maybe 40. Japanese from about 20. Thai from maybe 10. Afghani, Lebanese, Peruvian, Persian, Cuban, Salvadoran, multiple different places serving food from every region of Mexico. All without driving more than 2 miles, and most very reasonably priced.
I get that. And that’s why I suggested Des Moines as a starting example. There are cities in nearly every state - they do tend to be the liberal areas - that have a lot of that stuff. For a lot of those places, it’s also way easier to get around than places like DFW or LA.

Irony of ironies: The Russian intelligence services almost certainly have the NRA’s complete membership files, information the NRA zealously guards from the feds and all other Americans. Same is true of the John Birch Society. Of course, the Russians don’t intend to use this data to round up the “patriots” and shoot them. They would want it to help with lower level recruiting. Finding a local reporter who was also a fanatical NRA member, for example, would be an ideal lead for further investigation. The recruiter could then look for blackmail material, especially including things like a gambling addiction or drug habit that would cause great financial distress.

I don’t understand what is so hard for these idiots to comprehend… the bigger the alliance, the less likely another state is going to attack any member (that’s good, generally, for peace). By admitting smaller nations, you drastically reduce the chances of regional wars (again, generally good for peace) because itchy neighbors aren’t going to want to see American, British, and French bombers flying over their cities. Without NATO, or some such organization, you end up with a situation like we presently have in the Middle East - where foreign powers are stoking/creating/meddling in civil wars.
It’s the “Over There” syndrome kicking in again. It’s like how most of these fucknuts also don’t think of WWII as starting earlier than 1941, because that’s when we got involved. When it’s a “regional conflict,” they couldn’t give a fuck less other than to ask if our interests are at stake and who’s in the White House. We can’t do that and we can’t amend the Constitution to make the Senate either more representative or to strip it of power like most upper houses, because the small states will block it. we can give DC and Puerto Rico statehood, and we can gerrymander new democratic majority states out of the California superstate. Don’t tell me it can’t be done; California has 40 million people, as many as the 22 smallest states combined, and far more of them are Democrats than Republicans.
We can double the house of Representatives. That would make representation a hell of a lot more proportionate between large population states and the low density states.
