Pat Buchanan: Tea Parties Are a 'New Tribe Rising'

Would you believe that just this morning my family read (brace yourself) Judges 20. (We skipped 19 and just told the kids that something really, really bad had happened.)

I explained to the kids that the problem going on in this chapter was that this group of people decided to have allegiance to their tribe over right and wrong. Some of the men in their tribe had done something heinous, and the rest of the tribe chose to defend them rather than make them face justice. Being loyal to your tribe is fine, so long as it doesn’t trump allegiance to (God, right and wrong, justice, pick the one that works for you.)

Buchanan’s calling for an allegiance to a skin color that would trump allegiance to justice, to fairness, probably to the law. Not only do I not feel like pledging allegiance to a melanin level, I would rather pledge allegiance to ideals than people who share a minimum amount of DNA with me. (Which is not to say I don’t love my cousins and siblings and so on. I do.)
