They don’t seem to get that quality matters. Palin was a pathetic substitute for Hillary Clinton, just based on qualifications alone. It was downright insulting to have the GOP so blatantly try to pass her off as a stand-in just because she also had lady parts.

Cain is an insult to minority conservatives. He’s proof that the GOP doesn’t care about running quality candidates as long as they have someone they can point at and say, “See! We’ve got black Republicans! We’re enlightened!”

Putting up Clarence Thomas to succeed Thurgood Marshall was a good example of that. What a cynical move that was: “Hey, let’s succeed a giant of the civil rights movement with a guy who will be an empty robe that delegates his vote and voice to Scalia. He’s black! They can’t complain!”
