In what passes for the minds of the right, the quite beautiful folk tune Kumbaya has somehow become the very symbol of the godless, America-hating heathen left. In recent references we have heard it most often “cited or alluded to in satirical or cynical ways which suggest false moralizing, hypocrisy, or naively optimistic views of the world and human nature,” as wikipedia puts it. I thought I would post the famous Sandpipers rendition to remind everyone of the kind of thought and sentiment the present-day right finds so ridiculous:

That’s a very nice version.
I’m a veteran of the Catholic Church’s old “folk masses”; there might even be a chance (slim, but a chance) I’d still consider myself Catholic had they continued to opt for that more inclusive style of worship than the “dominus vobiscum” nonsense they eventually reverted to.

It’s less, um, tidy than the Sandpipers’ version. :-)
