I do seem to recall a case here in Texas, where someone or other in local LE more or less got a sizable portion of one town’s Black population indicted and such on purely fabricated evidence in order to boost his own climb through the local ranks. Can’t recall the town’s name, but it was quite a scandal; the accused, too poor to afford good counsel, were encouraged to cop pleas to lesser charges.

that should be a hanging offense… and it happens in the north too.
