I love applying for jobs where the person posting the ad doesn’t know how to spell. We should invent a line, say a squiggly line, that will appear if something is misspelled. We’ll be rich!!!

I put in a bid for a contract recently where the job offering claimed they wanted someone who was fanatical about detail and couldn’t stand typos.

The problem was the way they asked for it in the ad posting was by saying “You’re a grammar and language fanatic. You insist on good grammar and hard-hitting language. And then there’s typos. How can anyone leave a typo in their work?”

I pointed out to them that that should be “And then there are typos” or “And then there is the subject of typos”, and what they’d written was grammatically incorrect.

Didn’t hear back. I think they weren’t really prepared to have an actual language and grammar fanatic working for them; they just wanted someone they could dump crap on.
