Among other things, Pompeo believes in the Rapture. Like the boiling frog, we here in the States have been exposed to this gradually, and perhaps no longer realize just how strange and dangerous it is to inject this superstition into real world policy.

Yes — this is dangerous, but the current disasters in the Middle East were not prompted by this religious fanaticism. Bush 41 and Cheney when they inaugurated the present morass by their invasion of Iraq were not motivated by the Rapture. Nor was Obama with some of his ill-advised ventures — nor is Trump, who probably never heard of the Rapture. The mess in Iran is due to 1950’s actions that were realpolitik at its “finest”.
