here’s a translation from a major swedish newspaper about this. (emphasis mine)

The sale of tickets have been pushed up time and time again due to the security situation. The police estimates that there will be about 10,000 demonstrators at the match.

Four organizations have been granted a permit to hold protests. The social-democratic woman’s association of Scania has demanded the match be stopped. The woman’s association has even at a parliament-level asked to stop the match.

“Sweden should not play tennis with a country at war”, says the parilament member Anne Ludvigsson (social democrat).

The chairman of the recreational department in Malmo, Bengt Forsberg (social democrat), says that there are no political motives behind his suggestion to play with no fans.

“But the police has informed us that the match is a high-risk project. The decision is only about the safety of the players.”

The police has always declared that they will only maintain security outside, but inside the Baltic Hall, the organizers must be responsible.

“The suggestion to play with no audience does not come from the police” says Charley Nilsson, a spokesperson for the Scania Police.

Empty halls means a loss for the city of about 3.2m Crowns (~350,000US$). The Baltic Hall can seat 4,000 spectators. Instead of a net gain of 1.2m Crowns, the organizers expect a loss of 2m Crowns.

“I am saddened that Malmo City has made this decision” says the chairman of the Swedish Tennis Association, Henrik Kallen.
