re: #219 avanti

I don’t recall him denying anything about his upbringing. It was covered pretty well in his book. It was the exaggerations about him being a Muslim he denied.

See my #153. “I have never been a Muslim,” over and over again. And it wasn’t true.

Again, I don’t personally care what his faith was when he was a child. Perhaps, as Charles suggests, he in retrospect believes that he, as a child, never truly believed the things that Muslims believe. So he was never “truly” a Muslim, even though he identified himself as such at the time, attended Muslim religious classes, prayed in a Mosque, etc. But to me, that’s a level of Clintonian semantic obfuscation that stretches well into the category of lying.

Again, I don’t care what he did when he was a kid. I actually think the fact that he was raised a Muslim for a while might make him a better president. The point is, it’s uncool to go out of your way to tell a lie about your past. And it’s doubly uncool that now, having been elected, he’s trying to make points with Muslims by citing his Muslim roots, after having insulted Muslims everywhere by falsely denying his Muslim past during his campaign.
