I think the GOP has already painted itself into a corner in the sense that they have convinced their base that the Democratic party = CCCP, and any compromise is collusion with the enemy. It’s hard to compromise when the minority leader is literally screaming “Armageddon” on the floor of the house.

How do you back down from that? What do you tell your constituents?
