I saw an interview with an elderly woman who was holding a large framed photo of her son, a fireman who died on 9/11. She was against the location.
I don’t think she was a “bigot”.
If she’s not a bigot, then she’s having her memories of her dead son and the emotions tied with them exploited by bigots and xenophobes.
Different shit, same result…
