Well, if the daughter is under 21 she can’t carry the gun concealed in the great majority of states, and the gun’s not gonna be much use if she isn’t trained to use it or gets ambushed.

Which is largely the point, the idea of a gun as a magic talisman that wards off evil is foolish. I’d sooner give my hypothetical daughter a can of mace or a taser than give her a gun and expect her to be ready for anything she may encounter.
