Honor culture in the south. They have been humiliated and won’t stand for it. This is a long term problem. They have not assimilated. They must change the narrative to regain their honor. Goes all the way back to herders in England and Scotland.

And note that often their use of “south” is a shortened version of the “white south” that they actually mean.
